Cymax is powering, connecting and transforming the $233 billion USD online and offline home furnishings industry with sales of $190 million CAD in 2015. Cymax has bootstrapped itself into a leading e-commerce furniture retailer by leveraging its scalable, proprietary technology and operations platform through its online marketplace Cymax has experienced exponential growth by expanding its online offering to nearly 100,000 products, featuring top-selling furniture brands including ready-to-assemble, case goods (fully assembled) and home decor items.

With its energies focused on technology deployment, Cymax recruited its first Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) in 2015 to formalize its marketing and communications strategies and secure investment funding to propel its next stage of growth. With very limited internal capabilities, B Engaged collaborated with the CMO to determine priorities, identify deliverables aligned with business objectives and develop an action plan to achieve business goals.


B Engaged developed a 60, 90, 180 day Communications Roadmap detailing a list of strategic and tactical activities to support marketing and communications requirements for corporate, investor and media relations, business development and recruitment initiatives. The Roadmap was focused on key target audiences including potential investors, North American media, potential new hires, vendors and Cymax employees.

B Engaged developed an initial list of 30 deliverables which was quickly expanded to over 80. B Engaged delivered 80% within the first 75 days, using a Communications Tracker to monitor the status and completion. Deliverables included:

  • Created an Investor Package (Investor Fast Facts, Investor Pitch Deck, Founder biography) to support major fundraising efforts and to increase media profile of Cymax and its founder Arash Fasihi
  • Developed Corporate Fast Facts, senior management bios, key messaging, and media boilerplate
  • Drafted 12 media releases for staged release over a 3 month period announcing major funding, new hires, addition of board members, office expansion
  • Developed award application submissions for Cymax including BCTIA Company of the Year, Deloitte Fast50, NextBC, and Profit500 Fastest Growing Company
  • Drafted the Go-to-Market Plan for a subsidiary company to support business development efforts and drive revenue growth
  • Created a Features and Benefits Sheet for its subsidiary company targeting business prospects in the US and Canada
  • Created new Marketing collateral for an upcoming tradeshow including banners, brochures and sales presentations for tradeshow booth
  • Revised all customer experience web content on
  • Consolidated the current corporate web site with major edits, new content creation and revised site layout and hierarchy
